Newfound Construction was founded in 1985, by Bernie Short and Ed Short. The owners come from a construction family with roots established in the industry by their father Patrick Short, in the 1950’s, hence the name Short has become synonymous with construction in Newfoundland for over 50 years. Today, Newfound Construction is a successful general contractor with experience in subdivision development, breakwaters, wharves, roads, water and sewer, as well as, small hydroelectric projects. Located in the east end of St. John's The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge is a 106-bed long-term care facility providing nursing care and respite services. Located in the east end of St. John's, St. Patrick's Mercy Home's has a long history of quality care and compassion. It is a long term care facility that homes 214 beds. The nursing home is committed to caring for the whole person, respecting the sacredness of life and the dignity of each individual. Mercy is a way of life at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, which is intrinsic to our operation and enacted by our Staff and Volunteers. An assessor from Health and Community Services will then visit the person requesting admission to a nursing home and complete an assessment for placement. Nursing home placement assessments for people who are currently hospitalized are completed by the Social Worker in the hospital. Upon medical discharge, these applicants may be referred to a transition bed at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex transition unit or The Leonard Miller Centre, to await placement. This transfer referral happens if the applicant is not admitted to a nursing home directly from hospital.

Founded in 1969 by a group of doctors and business leaders concerned about the increasing incidence of liver disease, the Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) was the first organization in the world devoted to providing support for research and education into the causes, diagnoses, prevention and treatment of all liver disease. Throughout the Foundation’s 35+ years, we have served as a model for similar organizations around the world., Today, our focus remains virtually unchanged from those early days. Our mandate is to promote liver health and to reduce the incidence and impact of all liver disease. To achieve this goal, we work through our volunteer chapters across the country to improve public awareness and understanding of liver health and liver disease, raise funds for research and reach out to liver disease patients and their families.

In the fall of 1999, the Centre for Nursing Studies campus relocated to its permanent home at Southcott Hall, 100 Forest Road in the east end of St. John's. This new location provides state of the art lecture theatres, conference and lab facilities, a learning resource centre, student facilities, as well as administrative and faculty offices. The technology available at this site enhances the capabilities for delivery of both on-site and distance education programs. The Centre for Nursing Studies has approximately 40 full-time faculty members, as well as a large number of part-time faculty. Each year, the Centre admits approximately 120 students to the Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) program, approximately 40 students to the Practical Nursing Program, approximately 15 students to the Nurse Practitioner Program and additionally provides post-basic learning opportunities for both registered and practical nurses.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador is a self-governing body representing approximately 700 members and 55 students. Incorporated on March 31, 1949, under The Chartered Accountants Act, the Institute has a mandate to serve and protect the public interest and to enhance the Chartered Accountancy profession. This is achieved through the high level of professional and ethical standards set for its members and maintained through its own activities and governing legislation. The Institute is governed by a Board of nine elected members and three public representatives appointed by the Province. Board members serve two-year terms with a maximum limit of three consecutive terms. Terms are staggered such that approximately one-half of the Board are elected each year to provide greater continuity in any one year, while maintaining an annual election.
