In our intensive program we usually follow a textbook with lots of supplementary materials, which are included in the tuition price. Our days are broken up into two distinct classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each with a break. The mornings tend to be more focused on the structure of the language, with grammar lessons, while the afternoons focus more on functions. Grammar is not taught explicitly in the afternoon.
