Short profile:

Wilfrid Jury first opened its doors in September 1990. The school is named after the late Dr. Wilfrid Jury, a well-known London archaeologist. Dr. Jury is best remembered for his contributions to the Archaeology Department of the University of Western Ontario and the Museum of Indian Archaeology, an affiliate of the University. Wilfrid Jury serves the Whitehills region of northwest London-northern boundary Gainsborough Road, southern boundary Sarnia Road, eastern boundary Wonderland Road and western boundary Hyde Park Road. Jury offers classes from Kindergarten to Grade Eight with an enrolment of approximately seven hundred fifty students, making it one of the largest elementary schools in Thames Valley.

Detailed description:

We also have 3 system Developmental Classes and a system Steps class. We work closely with the Whitehills Day Centre which is located in the school. We are currently in our second year of a pilot project, Step by Step, whereby one of our Early Years classes has become a full day learning environment for the students. The Whitehills Day Care Centre offers full day child care as well as before and after school care for students. Our school is an integral part of the community and therefore the building is used by many community and city groups on weekends, in the summer and in the evenings.

Being able to effectively communicate is a life skill that we want our students to be able to demonstrate in all forms; orally, visually and in a variety of written forms. To that end, our school goal is focussed on improved student writing. Our students are given many opportunities to improve their writing skills, using a variety of strategies and tools. We are continuing to expand the use of technology teaching tools in our school by incorporating document cameras, Senteos, CPS units, data projectors and SMARTBoards in a many of our learning environments. Teachers are continually providing our students with timely constructive feedback to assist them in improving their writing skills.
