EastLink has the distinction of being the first cable company in Canada to enter the telephone market, and the first communications and entertainment company in North America to combine cable, Internet and telephone service in a communications and entertainment bundle. EastLink is one of the fastest internet providers in North America.

In 1971, Bragg Communications entered the cable television business in Amherst, Nova Scotia with one of the original cable licenses granted by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

Throughout the 1970's, 80's and 90's, Bragg Communications expanded its cable business by acquiring 13 cable systems throughout Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

After acquiring cable systems throughout the Maritimes, Bragg Communications and Halifax Cablevision merged under the EastLink brand in 1998 resulting in the formation of the sixth largest cable company in Canada. With over 27 years in the entertainment business, EastLink was prepared to enter a new marketplace, one that had not previously been explored by a cable company; telephone.

In 2007, EastLink acquired three new companies: Amtelecom, RuSh Communications and Persona Communications. The acquisition of these companies increased EastLink’s size to over 500,000 subscribers and solidified its presence as the only privately owned and operated cable company to operate in all 10 provinces. Amtelecom and Persona Communications – Central, Western and Delta Divisions continue to operate under their existing brand names.

In 2008, EastLink rebranded the Atlantic Division of Persona to EastLink.
