Short profile:
The principles Maximilian laid down were deceptively simple. Only the target language would be spoken in class, starting with the teacher's greeting on the first day. Emphasis would be on the spoken word, with students learning to read and write only what they had already learned to say and understand. There would be no formal grammar instruction; instead, students would absorb a grammatical system naturally, by using it in conversation. Above all, students would have to learn to think in their new language - not translate - to associate new words with objects and ideas, rather than with the distractingly familiar words of their mother tongue. All teachers would have to be native fluent in the classroom language, and would employ question-answer sessions and vocabulary exercises with students to achieve proficiency.

Detailed description:
Our study materials are the collaborative product of hundreds of Berlitz instruction teams worldwide. We also canvass students in our own classes to collect feedback and then revise and update the study materials accordingly. With over 10, 000 language instructors in the company, we leverage both internal and external expertise when developing our materials and have a ready resource for materials development talent. In addition, we've partnered with leading media companies (Sesame Workshop), academic publishers (Harvard University Business School Publishing), and industry-specific leaders (IATA) to develop highly credible learner and topic-appropriate content. The skill of the instructor is fundamental to the learning process. That's why Berlitz instructors are carefully chosen, rigorously trained and held to the highest standards. We train only instructors who are native fluent in the language that they will be teaching. All of them are university educated and many have advanced degrees in language, linguistics, and related fields of study. In order to provide feedback and guidance on their performance, instructional supervisors monitor their lessons. Based on Berlitz International standards, our Quality Control and Assurance Program is an ongoing diagnostic tool that identifies gaps in the delivery of language instruction. It documents performance expectations and follows up with actions and training initiatives.
Company description in a foreign language:
